PAPA’s pinball neighbors to the south are gearing up for a big event this weekend. Here’s the press-release straight from Jeff at the FSPA.

The Free State Pinball Association is happy to announce that the Fairfax Pinball Open will be the first regional WPPR-rated tournament of the year. The FPO9 will take place February 24-26, 2012, weather permitting.

In addition to several tournaments throughout the weekend, we are also having an UNOFFICIAL AC/DC LAUNCH PARTY to celebrate the newest STERN release from Steve Ritchie.

3 days of PINBALL! Come on out and play! Pinball Wizards, Casual Players and Total Newbies are welcome. Earn WPPR points towards your World Pinball Player Ranking. Play the newest STERN game: AC/DC ! Practice for the upcoming Pinburgh Tournament.

Pinburgh Poised to Surpass Last Year!

The Pinburgh list of players is currently sitting at 171 competitors, which is only three away from 2011′s total with nearly a month and a half still to go. The prize pool will begin to grow even higher when we reach 190 players. None of the five most recent players to sign up have ever competed at PAPA or Pinburgh!

Get ready for a great time! The next big question is who will be number 175 to bring us past last year?

Adam Lefkoff and Cayle George talk us through a PAPA 14 qualifying game on Stern’s Pirates of the Caribbean. This particular game was set up as difficult as possible, but Cayle managed to navigate his way to the top overall qualifying score of the weekend.

2012 Pinburgh Trophy Cup

As Pinburgh 2012 approaches, people will travel to PAPA World Headquarters outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and plan on playing a LOT of pinball, having a blast, and potentially taking home a chunk of the $20,000+ prize pool. What shouldn’t be overlooked during this weekend-long silverball celebration is the generous donation made possible by each of you to our local humane society. Each ten dollar roll of tokens purchased will yield a twenty dollar donation to help cats and canines get the care they need to keep wagging their tails or, in the case of cats, keep stealing warmth from the lap of whoever is nearby.

Last year, The Pinburgh tournament offered a donation of $12,550. This year, we hope to increase that amount. Thank you to everyone for your help.

Rose City Showdown This Week!

Everybody book your flights to Portland. Here’s a note straight from PAPA’s brothers in pinball in PDX, though we Pittsburghers loudly dispute your best city claim!

The Rose City Showdown IV is the largest and most competitive open qualifying tournament in the Portland area. Rose City Showdown will be the second to last stop on the PAPA Circuit tour in 2013, so this year’s event is a great opportunity to get a feel for the tournament and the best city for pinball in the country!

Qualifying will take place this Friday and Saturday with Finals on Sunday.

Friday 11am – 2am
Saturday 11am – 12am
Sunday 11am (classic finals, open to follow)

Rose City Showdown is a HERB style qualifying – PAPA style finals tournament consisting of two divisions, an open division on 6 machines and a classics division on 4 machines. Top 16 from open will make the open finals and top 12 from classics will make the classics finals. *Note these are two separate tournaments.

Just like last year tickets will be $3ea or 4/$10. Tickets can be used in either division. All money payed back to the winners!

Northwest Pinball Championships Finds a New Home

Update your reservations! The Northwest Pinball Championships Pinball Tournament has changed locations and will be held this year June 1-3 at the following hotel:

Andrei Massenkoff at PAPA 14

Andrei Massenkoff destroys Batman Dark Knight at PAPA 14 only to void the score into the oblivion of forgotten pinball lore. Okay… well, maybe voiding the score wasn’t that dramatic. Either way, we thankfully we had the cameras running the whole time and caught this gem on film. Enjoy!
