As the first video in our PAPA 14 series, we offer Derek Fugate, Josh Sharpe, and Phil Birnbaum competing on the Bally classic “Gator” from 1968. Gator offers a unique play experience with zipper flippers and gates that release your ball back into the shooter lane.
At this point in the competition, All three competitors have made their way to the Classics 1 tournament semifinals. This is game one of group one, so there is no prior score heading into the match.
In addition to running our own tournaments, PAPA sponsors other great events around the world with t-shirts, free PAPA certificates, volunteering, and a number of other ways.
Recently, on October 19-23, the Pinball Expo took place in Chicago. The winners received some PAPA certificates for PAPA 15 next August, and Todd MacCulloch received the fame of being the 2011 Expo Champion after working his way though a highly competitive field. Lyman Sheats took second place, and Pinburgh’s own tournament director, Bowen Kerins, took third. Zach Sharpe finished fourth to round out the final four.
Derek Fugate, a qualifier in two of our three classics tournaments at PAPA 14, won the Expo Classics tournament. Finishing 2nd through 4th were Cayle George, Josh Sharpe, and Joe Said respectively.
There were a number of other participants and winners in the various divisions, and PAPA both thanks and encourages all of them to keep flipping! If you ever get an opportunity, attend Expo and any other pinball show or tournament nearby.

Bowen battles a finicky coffin lock AND the undead in this Dracula Tutorial. We cut him a little slack though and let him have a few extra balls. This was Bowen’s first game on the setup, and before we knew it, he had a few billion points on the DMD. Enjoy.
