The Road to PAPA13

They’ve let me out of my cage in the back to give you a little update of all the going-ons around here as we gear up for PAPA13.

We’ve got all our scorekeepers and desk workers lined up. You may see a change in how we assign machines in B and C division: we’re going with the Classics Method of Free Will, where you choose what game you play next. There will be two scorekeepers in each of those during the busy hours. There are BIG changes at the front desk, but they’re secret, and Dave will beat me if I tell you(he knows where it hurts).

I think Iron Man is evil.

This year’s new tokens came in, and have been mixed in with the standards. We’ve got some snazzy new vending machines for soda and candy. Wifi’s been amped up, but don’t be a hog when you get here.

There are new computers and kiosks for you to check your scores and mail on. I’m rather proud of those. There’s a big surprise waiting in A division, which I had nothing to do with.

Name badges this year come on lanyards to wear around your neck. You will be required to wear it at all times when buying anything or playing in the tournament. If you lose or forget it there’s a fee, which will hopefully allow me to buy a bigger cage and maybe some padding. Also, beer.

My, those are some nice share buttons on this here blog. I wonder who spent so much time hacking up WordPress…

Shirts and posters and merch are starting to arrive. Machines are in their banks and ready to be played. Trophies are in. The bathrooms are clean! We’re working on tracking a few more things in the city of Pittsburgh down. Self promotion all around town with the awesome fliers for this year. Nearly there.

This is all the doing. There was a lot of thinking involved, and my brain hurts. And my back, because the cage they keep me in is not comfortable.

I’ll be anxious and excited to see the changes! 🙂 Every year, PAPA gets better and better!

That’s Elizabeth posting, btw. She’s our lead scorekeeper, volunteer coordinator, blog web mistress, and total Egg Head. If you’ve been to PAPA you might remember her best from scoring Classics.

Well there goes my anonymity, DAVE. Can I come out yet? I’m getting leg cramps in here.

Thanks for all your hard work! This will be my second PAPA and I can’t wait! Flying all the way from Alabama…

It’s about fricking time. Only took 7 years and 2 years of Classics to prove it was a good method. Glad the players revolted in Classics in ’08 and started this.

Although honestly, B has been doing this for the last two years too 🙂

B tried it when we told them to. We needed to prove it worked for us in a real division before standardizing it across the tournament.
