8-Ball Deluxe Tutorial

It was time to cool off from Pinburgh, so Bowen and the PAPA crew went out to shoot some stick at a nearby pool hall. As always, conversation turned to from the cue-ball to the silverball, and we were back at headquarters in no time filming 8-ball Deluxe.

I thought for sure you would drain at 2:31. Master at work.

Could you explain in the next video a little more about the nudging strategys to avoid outlane drains? Like what you’re up to at 8:05-8:13? That topic is never covered in the basic flipper control skill tutorials (obviously).

seattle pinball museum had this for a while. it’s a tricky game. and post transferring is a little harder on it for sure. i’m a big fan of Stern’s “remake” of 8 ball deluxe: “sharkey’s shootout”

2:31 is putting myself into dumb trouble and weaseling out. No mastery there…

    8:05 to 8:13… let’s see…

8:02: push machine up when the ball hits the upper half of a slingshot to keep it from going slingshot -> side drain

8:05: push machine when ball hits inlane/outlane divider to give better momentum to either having the ball go away from the area completely (which is what happened) or off the side wall back to the inlane

8:10: DROP FLIPPER IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHOOTING

8:12: hit side of machine to push ball of wall near 8-ball shot to avoid direct center drain

8:13: again, push machine on top of sling, and push again on inlane/outlane divider, this time to get the ball off the side wall and in… if side wall isn’t being friendly, start shaking left and right (with good timing) to try and bop it out

    8:15: relax

I’m not sure how to comment live on these, but I’ll try and improve that aspect.

This is one of the best yet. Great rules breakdown and very logical progression through the game.

Great skills, and great commentary. I’ve only recently gotten into EBD, and appreciate your explanation of the rules and strategies. Thanks!

Again an excellent video. Could you do a tutorial on Johnny Mnemonic or LOTR?
