Pinburgh 2012: Coming This Friday

In a change from last year, Pinburgh 2012 groups will consist of 4 games instead of 3.  There will be 45 groups: 180 unique games to play!

All 46 groups are listed below… oh wait, one is fake.  The groups include ones selected by the reigning PAPA champion, Andrei Massenkoff, and the reigning Pinburgh champion, Keith Elwin. Let us know your ideas for naming the other groups.  Each game is linked to a video on the Pinball Archive.

If you haven’t signed up for Pinburgh, join in!  Almost 250 players have pre-registered.  Every player who registers adds $100 to the prize pool, over $25,000.  There is no limit to the number of players or prize pool. Pinburgh is fun for casual and highly competitive players, and there are over 75 cash prizes to be won.

See you there!

    Couple questions…

1st If my math is correct, 200 players would require at least 50 groups of machines. Or would you be putting more that one group of players on the same bank, just playing different games at the same time?

2nd…4 game banks is very exciting, does that mean there will be a possible 12-0 record session? That’s very exciting news, more games of pinball is always better in my opinion, and I did think there was slightly too much time between sessions last year, what better way to fix that then play one more game. I love it, if that is indeed the case.

You are correct on both counts. The second group on the same set of machines will play them in 3-4-1-2 order, with the goal being that neither group has to wait for any game. This covers us unless there are over 360 players at Pinburgh, which won’t happen… not this year, anyway.

4 games makes this separation possible, and will also give a maximum 12-0 record per round. We’ll have a special announcement soon, but expect some sort of reward to anyone who goes 12-0. Three-player groups, if there are any, will play 6 games to give the same potential of reaching 12-0 in a round.

I am hopeful that we will be able to keep the same two-hour schedule. We are starting a half-hour early to give some additional buffer time just in case. Our testing and timing suggests we should be alright, but we’ll find out in 5 weeks…

    Thanks Todd!

Hey thanks Bowen. That’s really exciting. I like the 6 games for three player groups too. As if I need one more reason to be counting down the days. Should be a hell of a tournament.

  25. bowen
    March 16, 2012 at 10:19 am

Todd: nice discovery of the theme for #20. As for the Creature / Godzilla swap, theme-wise it is a good idea but game-wise we felt it was better with 1 Wms and 1 DE/Sega/Stern DMD game. Switching it puts Creature and Whitewater together and we wanted games to be somewhat different from one another.

You may see one or two additional switch-outs as a result of this, but game variety was a major goal of the groupings.

Thanks for everyone’s comments and excitement! We are definitely using many of these ideas. In general, short titles (4 words or less) are much more likely to be used than longer titles. As much fun as “I want you to hunt horsemen with Sly Stallone” we are more likely to go with something shorter 😉

  26. Todd Williams
    March 16, 2012 at 12:02 pm

    Thanks Jason and Bowen,

Bowen that’s what I figured that it was a gameplay issue not a theme issue.

And honestly…I like judge harshly and carry a big gun,

For the last group I will attempt to contain my wit to 4 words 🙂

    March 16, 2012 at 12:06 pm

In Group 36, The Who’s Tommy was replaced by Scared Stiff in order to balance the games better. (The group had two dot-matrix Data East games.) The final titles of Groups 23 and 36 have been added.
