PAPA 14 Qualifying – Guns and Roses

Bowen offers live commentary on game three of his first qualifying run at PAPA 14. Since this commentary was done during the actual tournament, it offers a unique insight into the mind (craziness) of a top player when it matters. Thanks Bowen! Enjoy…

I have a request. After seeing Bowen successfully complete a death save one handed, I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to do a death save?

While they’re not as dangerous as bang backs, death saves are still illegal in tournament play. We may do a clip in the future on the two moves, but currently the best resource for both is a section in the Pinball 101 dvd.

I find it funny how he kept avoiding “Dizzy Ball” even though it’s a two ball multiball where the ramps are worth a fairly good amount of points….

I played some GNR tonight and got 200+ million or so from the axl 3 ball mode. I had 2 balls on the right and was able to drop catch the kickout and put it back into the mystery hole repeatedly. I doubt that’s doable on this machine but it might be worth a try!

I recently attented a tournament with a GNR, but unfortunately after a day a playing almost non-stop the flipper were weak, to the point of being impossible to make either ramp. It seems a common problem on DE games, what do you guys at PAPA do to mitigate this issue on your games ?

You can upgrade the coils – not ideal but sometimes acceptable – or figure out a way to keep them cooler longer. One trick is to use heat sinks.
