Pinburgh 2013 is FULL with 400 players

In less than three weeks, Pinburgh 2013 has filled to its capacity of 400 players.  Thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm, and we’ll try to match it with a great event.

Don’t forget about the Circuit Final on Thursday!  It’s a great spectator event, but there are a few other reasons to stop by on Thursday:

  • You can complete registration and avoid Friday morning’s line!
  • You can practice on Pinburgh machines during a 2 1/2 hour play session from 10:30 am to 1 pm!
  • You can play a 9-hole Pingolf tournament open from 12 noon to 7 pm, with finals to follow!
  • You can watch the Circuit Final!  Seriously, it should be awesome.

It’ll be a great Thursday before the tournament begins Friday morning.

Here are the affiliations for the 400 players registered for Pinburgh.  Sign-ups are still being accepted for the waiting list, and it is very likely that early waitlisted players will get through.  Thanks again!

Why don’t you enter the tournament Bowen?

He’s not allowed 😛 since this is his baby!

How the hell are we all going fit into the picture this year?

PAPA rules prohibit tournament organizers from playing in their events. How would it look to get interviewed as the organizer of the richest pinball tournament ever, then at the end, get interviewed again as its champion? Very Bad.

Also, this thing is huge. A lot of people need to dedicate a lot of time to make it happen, not just me. Without tournament staff who just do that work, it would collapse under its weight. I’m happy to do what I can here, and don’t mind at all not playing.

This is really amazing. Almost a year ago I predicted that there would be 300-350 players in Pinburgh 2013. Boy, was I wrong! Congratulations to Bowen, Kevin, Mark, and everyone else involved. Can’t wait!

I decided not to participate in it last year, so I don’t know how it went. I remember two years ago it was a bit of an adventure, but good luck to whoeve runs the sunday consolation tournament. Potentially 300 players (obviously not all will participate, but still) that’s alot of people to organize.

decent prizes in it this year though…so definitely worth giving it a shot.

We’ve seriously revised the way the consolation tournament is organized. With luck and code we expect the consolation will be a great, fun experience instead of … uhh … not?

Consolation tourney should be fine. It’s going to be run on however many ipads we need to hold the appropriate number of brackets and then consolidated when the number is low enough at the end. Computers + dedicated, prepared staff = fully functional consolation tournament.

Also, the picture this year will be taken from a boom.

Nice I figured you guys were on top of it. Hopefully I won’t be playing in it. 🙂

I’m surprised that Pinburgh 2013 sold out this fast although I wouldn’t be surprised if there are 25 (or more) cancellations by the Friday morning of the tournament. Now the question is how large will the waiting list get?

Only thing missing is the seeding of the players. Just awesome that the field is filled in less than a month of preregistration time. Going to be fun.

Looking forward to Pinburgh! Bowen et al, wwhen you get the time, you may want to update the official rules to account for D division, and refer the prize amounts for consolation tourney to the separate prizes table rather than in the rules itself.

Also, given the full 400 entries, will each division finals be based on the 32 qualifiers version?

  14. February 7, 2013 at 10:30 am

Thanks for your comment, we are working on this — current top priority is getting more hotel rooms for people!

There will be 24 qualifiers in each of the four divisions at Pinburgh 201. If you’re on the bubble for qualifying, consider Round 10 your first round of finals 😉

We will update the rules document as soon as we can but would rather make one big update instead of several small updates.
