PAPA 16 Update

IMG_8389Between getting PAPA headquarters ready for the upcoming PAPA16 World Pinball Championships, creating upcoming material, and getting all of the kickstarter tshirts and tokens made and packaged, there’s been little time for recent blog updates. Once the new website (currently under production) is revealed, our schedule for videos and new material will be both visible and steady. We hope all of you understand our recent silence isn’t from lack of effort, it’s the exact opposite! Stay tuned for loads of good stuff just beyond the horizon.

We are incredibly grateful to all of you who helped support our kickstarter. The money that arrived from your donations is being focused toward equipment that can be moved around to different locations, giving us the capability of livestreaming pinball events all around the country. In addition to this mobile equipment, PAPA has also made several improvements to the inside of our own facility by using non-kickstarter, private donations. These improvements have required us to allow far more workers and volunteers inside of the facility this summer than is our normal practice, meaning several people have seen rows of games lined up in the different divisions.

PAPA’s standard practice is to not reveal the games to be used in our World Championships until the day of the tournament. Because so many people have gained access to the facility this summer, we want to keep the competitive balance as fair as possible between all potential players and announce the games that others have seen. Next year, we will return to our standard operating procedure and keep the doors closed during the summer months.

Division A
Indy 500
Addams Family
Johnny Mnemonic
Time Machine
Attack From Mars
Last Action Hero
Road Show

Division B
Dr Who
Eight Ball Deluxe
Space Station

Division C
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Dr Dude
Judge Dredd
Ripley’s Believe it or Not
Revenge from Mars
Scared Stiff

Juniors and Seniors
Wheel of Fortune
Elvira and the Party Monsters

Other games that have been seen in one of the banks during the past several weeks include: Hoops, Dirty Harry, Iron Man, Baywatch, Apollo 13, Demolition Man, Fish Tales, and Derby Day. The above list is NOT FINAL. Games are frequently moved in and out of position for a variety of reasons, and a number of the games listed in the above divisions may be there for a variety of reasons, such as filming a video. We are only providing this list to let all players know what others have seen at our facility so far this summer and provide a “likely” list of games.

As always, no one other than the tournament director knows what games are being prepared for use in finals on Sunday, and as always, those games may or may not be drawn from the list above. More PAPA 16 and updates will be coming soon.

Figured business was the reason for the radio silence, but it was nice of you to respond to that anyway. Wish I could go this year…

Does this mean that the super spinner was taken off of Johnny?

The spinner is present and functioning, but it doesn’t work all that well compared to most PAPA spinners. Each shot registers ~4-7 times.

Also, the Time Machine starwarp resets each ball and is set to 500k instead of 1m. The other two ramps still spot locks.

Everything else in the bank is as a player would expect software-wise. Nothing big has been removed or bastardized in any game in a significant way, but each game has tight slings and outlane posts on wide settings (as most tournament players would expect).

Big scores will be available for the players who can achieve them. There’s no point in setting up just to broadcast a bunch of house balls…

So anyone want to take bets on whether or not someone’s going to try and stage the 80 million spins on JM?

    For those not aware, that’s:

Spinner Millions (10 mil per spin) + 4x Bonus + Hold Bonus: unlike pretty much every other game on the planet that lets you add extra bits to your bonus, JM adds it all up BEFORE it multiplies everything, meaning that 160 million you racked up is actually 640 million.

Got hold bonus? That whole shebang carries over. Heck, if you can get hold bonus AGAIN (like, say as a lock reward), it’s 160 million per spin!

    24X per spin…

Maybe there will be a rollunder gate instead of a spinner 🙂

^If that’s the case, I guess maybe we’ll finally find out if it’s possible to roll a DMD 😛

The scoring bugs on JM are far worse than you can imagine, and, frankly, have been well-known for almost its entire 20-year existence. When you get awarded “hold bonus” in bonus, it gives you those points right then as well as at the total. So with 4x and hold bonus, super spinners are effectively 12x. Another hold bonus brings it to 20x. Another hold bonus and “award bonus” brings it to 28x.

On one hand, I didn’t know about this bug.

On the other hand, I am able to imagine 29x and maybe even more, so it’s not actually beyond my imagination. 😉

What?! No World Cup Soccers in any bank? That’s just not right! I hope they are being held for the finals! lol
