Old-School pinball racks up converts

FARGO – In an age when you can play game apps on your smartphone, opening a bricks-and-mortar pinball arcade may smack of folly.

But ever since Scott Nelson opened Fargo Pinball this year, the downtown business has been rolling right along, its underground, off-the-grid appeal growing membership to about 200 so far.

“It’s been very successful,” Nelson said, adding that a couple more people sign up every week at the arcade on Broadway, which first opened under the name Tilt Pinball, a moniker Nelson has since changed.
